Ctrl + W in AutoCAD toggles Object Snap (OSNAP) on and off.
Object Snap helps accurately select points such as endpoints, midpoints, and centers.
This shortcut improves precision during drawing and editing.
What is Ctrl+W in AutoCAD?
In AutoCAD, Ctrl + W toggles Lineweight Display on and off.
What it does
- ON: Objects are displayed with their assigned lineweights (thicknesses).
- OFF: All objects appear with a uniform thin line on screen, regardless of their actual lineweight settings.
Important
This affects only the display on your screen, not the actual lineweights used when plotting/printing.
Example
If a wall is assigned a thick lineweight and a dimension line is assigned a thin lineweight:
- With Ctrl + W ON, you’ll see the thickness difference.
- With Ctrl + W OFF, both may appear similarly thin on screen.
Command equivalent
You can use the system variable:
LWDISPLAY
1= On0= Off
